CCHA Heavyweight Bout: Round Two

The nationally No. 6-ranked Bulldog hockey team hosts the No. 2-ranked Miami RedHawks this weekend in a critical CCHA series.

The Bulldogs and RedHawks are tied for first in the CCHA standings with 34 points each. Michigan State, which has played two more conference games than both teams, is just behind with 33 points.

Earlier this season, Ferris claimed two shootout victories and four of the six points in a series at Miami. The Bulldogs swept Notre Dame in South Bend last weekend, while the RedHawks were swept by non-conference opponent Robert Morris University.

Ferris, undefeated in its last 12 CCHA contests, will be without freshman center Travis Ouellette for the series. Ouellette, tied for third in goals with six this season, was suspended two games by the CCHA for checking Notre Dame defenseman Teddy Ruth in the back during last Sunday’s game.

The RedHawks’ sophomore goaltender Cody Reichard and the Bulldogs’ junior goaltender Pat Nagle are the top two goalies in the nation in average goals allowed per game this season.

The battle begins at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at Ewigleben Ice Arena. The teams will conclude the series on Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m.
