Bulldogs Barking Up the Poll

FSU Hockey climbed 9 spots into the top 10

Ferris State Hockey is climbing the National Polls and currently ranked as number ten in the nation as of Nov. 18, 2013.

Bulldog hockey was previously ranked at number 19 at the beginning of November. Ferris is also highly ranked nationally with their overall scoring, holding the number three spot.

Including their national accomplishments, the team is in charge at the number one spot in the WCHA conference.

“This year reminds me a lot of the year we had when we went to the Frozen Four.” senior defenseman Scott Czarnowczan said. “Our scoring has improved a lot and with the chemistry our team has, it makes it much easier to find the back of the net.”

Among the top 50 overall scoring leaders in the nation, Ferris’ own junior forward Justin Buzzeo, senior forward Garrett Thompson, and Czarnowczan hold spots.

Czarnowczan also holds the title of captain this season and feels honored to hold the position.

“My freshman year the captain was Zach Redmond and he was great to us. That is what I want to be for my teammates,” said Czarnowczan.

His fellow teammates, Buzzeo and DeMartino agreed that Czarnowczan is one to motivate the others by his hard work ethic.

Buzzeo said, “Czar has been a great leader so far. When you see someone like Czarno comes to the rink every day and work hard it rubs off on the others and motivates others to do the same.”

Although these high rankings have been a great accomplishment for Ferris hockey, the Bulldogs seem to have focused themselves on reaching the national stage once again.

“I believe that being ranked 10 says a lot, but we are not satisfied at 10. I believe we can go really far,” said Czarnowczan. “We want to continue to climb the polls and then other teams will know we are a separate team from the rest.”

DeMartino mentioned that the teams accomplishments are owed to the past players and legends from Ferris.

“Whether they were here 20 years ago, or on the team that went to the frozen four. They have built bulldog hockey and we just want to add to that success,” said DeMartino.
