Women’s soccer strikes back

After dropping a 7-2 road decision to rival Grand Valley State, the Bulldogs took decisive 4-2 and 6-1 victories on their own turf.

The Bulldogs 4-2 victory over Ashland saw five of the six goals in the game take place in the final 15 minutes of the contest.

Senior Stephanie Garland netted her third goal of the season in the 84’ minute of the contest to take the lead, and senior Riley Wood scored her third 39 seconds later.

Five different Bulldogs scored in the 6-1 victory over Lake Erie, with Abby Meirndorf scoring back-to-back goals. Ferris moved to 5-7-2 overall following their win over Lake Erie.

Volleyball stumbles at GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

Ferris State’s six match winning streak came to a halt when they dropped two of their three matches in Aurora, Ill. in the GLIAC/GLVC crossover tournament.

A 3-1 loss to Indianapolis opened the tournament for the Bulldogs, who came back and beat Missouri-St. Louis 3-0 the next day.

Ferris dropped the final match to Truman in a drawn out 3-2 affair.

The Bulldogs return to Ferris for a three match home stand against Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and Grand Valley State on Oct. 24, 25 and 28.

Basketball teams open practice for 2014-15 season

Both Bulldog basketball squads opened practice on Oct. 15 as preparation gets under way for the 2014-15 season.

The men’s team has their annual Alumni Game on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. and will play at Oakland University the next weekend on Nov. 1 in an exhibition game before returning home for an exhibition game with Calvin on Nov. 8.

The men’s team will open their home schedule on Nov. 22 against Lewis (Ill.) at 3 p.m.

The women’s team opens play with a tough road exhibition match up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Nov. 5 in South Bend. The women opened the 2013-14 season at Michigan State a season ago in an exhibition game, losing 100-52. The women open at home on Nov. 30 against Tiffin at 1:00 p.m. inside Wink Arena.
