Torch moving offices to Alumni building

The Torch offices, which have been house in the student recreation center’s room 102 since January 2013, will again be moving.

This time, the move is away from the center of campus, to the Alumni building in room 011.

The decision came down on March 18 that the Torch would be moving offices, but initially it was thought that the Torch would me moving into an already occupied space on the third floor of the Starr Building.

Eventually on April 10, Rick Kurtz, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, handed down his decision to the Torch that they would be moving into the space in the lower level of the Alumni Building.

Money Smart Week

Ferris will be taking part in Money Smart week on Wednesday, April 15 from 3-7 p.m. Money Smart is a national awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances and is open to students and the general public. Ferris will be awarding $1,250 in scholarships during Money Smart Week.

Other events hosted during Money Smart week are “Your Money – Good Advice!” on Monday, April 20, “Buying a House – The American Dream” on Tuesday, April 21, “Loan Repayment: Steps for Success” on Wednesday, April 22, “Auto Finance 101” on Thursday, April 23, and “Foundations of Investing” on Friday, April 24. All events start at 11 a.m. and are repeated at 7 p.m. in FLITE 240 Reading Room.

New board members

The Ferris Alumni Association Board has approved four new board members: Judith Collins, historical architect and compliance coordinator of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore; Luke Edington, production sports engineer for Gentex; Susan Wyckoff McFarland, with the Social Security Administration in Sheridan; and Rick Rolf, with Thrivent Financial in Grand Rapids

Living the dream

Author, sports broadcaster and long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad will be the keynote speaker for this fall’s Ferris Foundation Benefit. In 2013, in her fifth and final attempt, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of completing the 110-mile swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 64.
