The Bulldog volleyball team came ready to play when they hosted the Grand Valley State Lakers Tuesday night.

Maintaining their undefeated record in the GLIAC, the No. 4 ranked Ferris State Bulldogs came up just short of the sweep, but managed a 3-1 victory over the Lakers.

Coming out hot, the Bulldogs took the first set 25-16 and the second 26-24. Dominant performances in those first two sets from senior outside hitters Megan Vander Meer and Alexis Huntey really got the capacity crowd going.  By the time the third set came to a close, the Bulldogs had fallen just short of the Lakers, losing 25-23. The Bulldogs finally sent the Lakers sailing back to Grand Rapids after a 25-20 victory in the fourth set, cementing the 3-1 final score.

Vander Meer’s 15 kills and Huntey’s 11 kills led the Bulldogs in that category, while Ferris freshman outside hitter Katie Placek led the team in digs with 20. The Bulldogs had 13 combined blocks as opposed to Grand Valley’s 11 team blocks.

This wasn’t the last time the Lakers and Bulldogs will meet up this season, as they will compete against each other once more, this time on Grand Valley’s turf come Nov. 3. Tuesday night’s win keeps the Bulldogs 5-0 GLIAC undefeated streak alive, bringing their overall record to 13-1.

The Lady Bulldogs are in action next when they host Tiffin on Saturday, Oct. 3, followed by another home game against Ohio Dominican on Friday, Oct. 9.
