Stunting on the scene

Ferris introduces new STUNT program

On Friday, Sept. 13, Ferris Athletics announced the addition of the STUNT team to their long list of varsity sports.

Beginning in the fall of 2025, the STUNT program will become Ferris’ 18th varsity program and the third school in the GLIAC conference with a stunt team.

STUNT athletes will show off their cheerleading-based skills in head-to-head competitions against neighboring schools. Competition categories will include team routines, stunts, tosses and pyramids.

With the new program comes the hiring of a new head coach, announced by Ferris athletic director Steve Brockelbank. The STUNT team will be led by coach Perrmella Harris.

Harris has coached for over 30 years in organizations like the Michigan High School Athletic Association alongside ownership of the Metro Cheer Training Center in Redford, MI.

Bulldog athletics has not introduced a new sport since 1999, when women’s soccer joined the ranks of Ferris. Harris will look to make an impact for the Bulldogs right away with the first-ever Ferris STUNT team.

“My focus will be to bless talented young adults who want to continue at the college level,” Harris said. “I also want our program to engage with our community and cultivate a culture of excellence on and off the mat while aiming for accomplishments that make our university and alumni proud.”
