The Ferris State women’s soccer team starts their season with a 0-3-1 record
The Bulldogs tallied a 3-1 loss against Quincy University of Illinois in a non-conference match-up in Allendale, Mich. on Friday.
The Bulldogs have struggled to gain momentum in their first four matches as new members and old grow accustomed to each other’s playing styles.
Captains Christy Palmer and Stevie Salow have been working to keep the team motivated during the first few matches of the year. “We’ve played some tough competition, all of whom were ranked and do well in their divisions. We’re hopeful the conference does us well,” said Salow.
Senior goalkeeper Kari Alsager, who tallied just over half of the minutes in the game Friday has seen her teammates make good decisions on the field. “We’re really making opportunities and finishing well this year,” said Alsager who, along with freshman goalie Kara Stephens, has been receiving specialized coaching from former GVSU women’s soccer keeper Kristina Nasturzio.
Ferris is hoping to see results when they begin conference play on Sunday Sept. 13 in Allendale, Mich. against the Lakers of Grand Valley Sate University (GVSU). The Lakers, who were undefeated in the GLIAC last year have already set the tone for their season with a record of 3-0-1.
Bulldog soccer, now in its tenth season, has an all time record of 76-89-11 according to the Ferris State athletics Web site, shooting to better last year’s fourth place finish in the GLIAC.
