Intramural sports at Ferris are underway as softball, 6v6 volleyball, and soccer began yesterday.
Sign-ups for those sports are now closed, but other sports are still available. Entries to play flag football, ice hockey, and 4v4 volleyball are due on Oct. 15. Nov. 4 is the last day to enter in order to join 3v3 basketball.
All Ferris students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate in intramural sports. A Ferris identification card must be presented to the University Recreation staff to participate.
There are several divisions in which an individual can join. There is the men’s, women’s, and co-rec division. There is the Greek division in which members have to belong to a fraternity or a sorority. Lastly, there is the residence hall division. If a particular residence hall does not have a team, a person can be eligible to play for another hall.
Teams will also be able to choose between three different levels of competition: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Each sport has a pre-set entry fee per team which is available online at the University Recreation website or by asking the UREC staff.
Interested individuals do not have to have prior experience to join an intramural sports team. They are a great way to meet new people and make friends. Jeremy ‘Pops’ Hatherly, senior in elementary education, is a captain on an intramural softball team and has been for the past three years.
“Intramural sports are fun, interactive, and I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime,” said Hatherly.
