The Ferris men’s basketball team earned its first GLIAC Tournament victory since the 2005-2006 season with a win over Saginaw Valley State on Tuesday.

Ferris lost the two regular season meetings with the Cardinals, but won a defensive battle 65-59 in University Center in the GLAIC Tournament Quarterfinals. The victory marked the first win at Saginaw Valley since the 2006-2007 season.

The Bulldogs held the Cardinals to 32 percent shooting from the field and forced 15 turnovers. As a team, Ferris shot 18 percent from 3-point range, while Saginaw Valley shot 26 percent.

Ferris trailed by 12 points with 7:42 left in the first half, but cut the deficit to 31-28 by halftime. The Bulldogs took the lead six minutes into the second half and never relinquished it.

Junior guard Darien gay paced the Bulldogs with 14 points, while junior center Justin Keenan added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will play at the top-seeded Findlay Oilers on Mar. 5 in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals. Ferris split the two regular-season contests with Findlay, with each team winning at home. The winner will play either Grand Valley State or Hillsdale in the championship game.
