The Ferris softball team has won nine of its last 12 contests after sweeping Lake Superior State on Monday.
Bulldog freshman pitcher Dana Bowler allowed three hits and struck out 11 batters in a 9-0 shutout in the first game of the doubleheader. Ferris scored six runs in the top of the first inning and the Lakers never got on track. The Bulldogs had hits from 11 different players and were helped out by five Laker errors.
The second game went back and forth as neither team took control until Ferris scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead. Lake Superior squeezed out two runs in the top of the seventh, but fell short with the tying-runner stranded on second base. Ferris is 75-18 all-time against Lake Superior.
Ferris improved to 20-13 overall this season and 11-6 against conference opponents. The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 in road contests this season. Ferris returns to the diamond on Wednesday for a home contest Northwood to make up a rained-out game from April 3. Northwood won the first meeting between the Timberwolves and Bulldogs 5-0.
