Bulldogs conclude home schedule with win, tie

The Bulldogs keep their unbeaten streak alive by beating Michigan Tech 2-0 and tying Northern Michigan 1-1.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs hosted the Wildcats, but only managed to battle to a tie. The only goal from the Bulldogs came from junior Bri Borgam and was assisted by senior Kristen March late in the first period. Ferris would hold Northern to a 1-0 score until the final minutes of the game until the Wildcats would redeem themselves and tie the game up in the second period.

Both teams played the game aggressively as Ferris racked up 18 fouls while Northern was whistled for 13.

After playing two overtime periods, the game would end without either team scoring, leaving the ending result 1-1.

“We played a great game against Northern Michigan,” said freshman Laurel Rapson. “It’s too bad that it ended in a tie because we outplayed them, but we’ll beat them next time.”

After the game concluded the seniors on the team were honored; including Carlee Boyle, Sam Harrington, Kara Lovelace, Kristen March, Ellen Phillips, and Megan Stec.

Although the team had a rough game against Northern, the previous game against GLIAC conference team Michigan Tech on Friday was a shutout. Ferris tallied both its goals in the first period by Borgam, with one assisted by Stec. Borgam has now scored nine goals this season for the Bulldogs, making it the team high.

The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 16-9 while goalkeeper Rachel McCullum stopped all five shots attempted by the Huskies. This game was a physical contest played by both teams as the Bulldogs received four yellow cards.

“It was great to get a win against Michigan Tech,” Rapson said. “Our team worked really well together and it was a well deserved win.”

The Bulldogs have now concluded their home schedule and will go on the road to play their final two regular season games, Saturday at Findlay and Monday at Tiffin, both GLIAC match ups. After those contests, the team will prepare for both the GLIAC and NCAA tournaments.

The Bulldogs overall record is now 7-3-2 in the GLIAC and 7-5-3 overall. n
