Bulldog cross country teams put up strong performances at GLIAC Championships

Both the men’s and women’s Cross Country teams placed within the top ten in the GLIAC Championship last weekend.

The women’s team had a very strong finishing, placing second just behind Grand Valley. As a team they had 83 points. Senior Tina Muir placed third in the 6k race with a time of 21:27.9, just behind two GVSU contenders. Sophomore Alyssa Osika took 18th place and senior Paige Onweller took 20th, shortly behind her finished sophomore Anna Rudd in 22nd.

The men’s team fared decently as it claimed the 8th overall spot with 213 points. Finishing first for the Bulldogs was Sophomore Michael Schulte, who took 32nd place with a time of 26:23.9 in the 8k race.

Coming in behind him was freshman David Silversmith in 35th, sophomore Ryan Chute in 39th, and freshman Bill King in 61st. Rounding out the top 70 for the Bulldogs was sophomore Andrew Campbell in 65th and senior Derek Childs in 70th.

“We worked more as a team in this meet more than any other meet and that helped us out a lot,” said Chute. “This meet was conferences so it was a bit more serious and so we ran more focused. The team improves meet to meet and I’m excited for regionals in two weeks so we can continue to improve.”

The Bulldogs will compete again in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional competition on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky. n
