As the monotony of the school year continues, each day feels like a battle just to get through it.
It often feels that each day rolls into the next and weeks turn into months in the blink of an eye. Halfway through my sophomore year, I thought graduation day would never come.
Then a funny thing happened: time passed. Time passes continuously and every second passes before you even have time to realize it’s happening. At the time, it feels like time drags and something you are looking forward to will never arrive. You think to yourself “spring break will never get here,” or “why can’t summer just get here now?” I thought that to myself five years ago. Those spring breaks and summers are now in the past—just a memory.
There comes a point in everyone’s lives when they realize how short life really is and how precious each day is. When your head hits the pillow tonight think about what’s most important in your life. Do what you love every day because none of us knows when our last day will be.
Life doesn’t just stop for us. It’s hard to take time out of our busy days and enjoy the little things. That sentence right there is why people have a difficult time realizing how fast their lives are flashing by. Everyone is so busy with work, school, homework, meetings and all the other stuff we “have” to do each day that time moves swiftly by without our noticing.
I can almost promise you that a day will come this summer when you’ll finally stop for a second and think about where the semester went. Some of you, me included, will be thinking about where your college career just went.
Every day is a chance to make a memory. Every day is a chance to do something exciting and out of the ordinary. Every day is a chance to meet someone new. Every day happens no matter what. The day passes no matter what you choose to do with it. It’s so important to seize every opportunity because you may never get the chance again.
Spend your free time in a way that makes you happy. Time waits for no one. Life is short; live it. n
