The Bulldogs showed why they’re the top seed in the GLIAC Tournament on March 3 as they buried Saginaw Valley State 80-61 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Ferris fell behind by five points five minutes into the game, but a 19-7 Bulldog run to end the first half game them a 43-32 advantage at halftime.
The second half belonged solely to the Bulldogs, as they outscored the Cardinals 37-29 in the final half to keep the game out of reach. Ferris led by as many as 30 points with 5:12 left in regulation as most of the starters were on the bench at that point.
Bulldog senior center Justin Keenan led the way with 28 points and 10 rebounds while senior guard Darien Gay posted 13 points along with 13 assists. Keenan earned his second consecutive Men’s GLIAC Player of the Year Award.
Ferris will now host the semifinal and final rounds of the GLIAC Tournament at Wink Arena on March 5-6. The Bulldogs will host sixth seeded Michigan Tech in a 1 p.m. contest on March 5. The Huskies upset Grand Valley State in their quarterfinal matchup.
Second seed Findlay will square off against fourth seeded Wayne State at 3 p.m. The winners of the two contests will play in the championship game on March 6 at 2 p.m.
