Bulldogs storm past Lake Erie, focused on Ashland

Ferris State University opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 49-21 victory in Painesville, Ohio Sept. 8th.

The Bulldogs racked up 665 yards in total offense (364 rushing, 301 passing) as Ferris vanquished the Lake Erie Storm. Ferris State improved their unbeaten record to 2-0 this season, while the Storm fell to 0-2 on the year.

The Bulldogs began the game with redshirt freshman quarterback Jason Vander Laan leading the offense down into the Storm’s end zone in an eight-play drive that led to an early 7-0 FSU lead. Vander Laan went on to finish the game 16-for-21 for 135 passing yards.

From there, the Bulldogs piled up the points each quarter by scoring 14 points in each, with the exception of seven scored in the 4th quarter.

Sophomore FSU quarterback Taylor Masiewicz completed 9-of-12 passes for 145 total yards and three passing touchdowns. Seven Bulldogs scored touchdowns en route to the victory.

The Bulldogs defensive unit kept the Storm at bay, limiting Lake Erie to 293 total yards. Ferris State’s defense combined for a total of five sacks and a loss of 26 yards.

Ferris State will welcome Ashland University Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. to Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids for the Bulldogs home opener. Both teams are 2-0 this year. Tickets may be purchased at the FSU Athletics Ticket Office M-F 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
