Successful collegiate contest

Ferris State Torch student paper recognized

Recently, the Michigan Press Association gave out its awards to various student and college newspapers across the State.

The Torch attained 14 awards in many different categories including several different awards on articles, photography, original cartoons and general excellence.

To enter this competition, the editor-in-chief met with several of the other editors for the paper and began to look over the work which had been published by the Torch over the past year looking for the few gems that stood out as worthy to be entered into the competition.

“We tried to get a variety of writers, but still selecting the most outstanding work from the year. It is a hard decision, but as a group we collaboratively selected what we thought was the best,” Editor-in-Chief Mary Benson said. “This is a yearly contest that we enter. It allows us to see how well we did overall and how we can improve next year.”

Students here are Ferris should feel proud to know their paper has been so positively acknowledged by the Michigan Press Association.

“Every once in awhile, it is nice to be acknowledged,” Benson said.
