Ferris State’s home opener will be put on hold due to a field that remains unplayable impart to Big Rapids’ changing climate.
Ferris’ Lady Bulldogs will instead travel to Caledonia for a weekend of double-header action at Davenport University’s home field, the Famers Insurance Athletic Complex, March 29-30.
Ferris’ first conference twinbill of the weekend will begin league play for foe Lake Erie (2-8) March 29, at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs (9-7, 2-2 in the GLIAC) will then welcome league newcomer Walsh in the Cavaliers’ first conference doubleheader, March 30.
Ferris’ freshman outfielder Alyssa Smith, who holds a league best eight stolen bases and fourth-best .436 batting average through 12 games, will look to extend her nine bases reached streak.
Ferris will be guided at the mound by senior pitcher Dana Bowler. Bowler (9-5) is second in strikeouts among pitchers in the GLIAC with 58 thrown this season.
Ferris will hope to open its home field against Lake Superior State (2-3, 0-2 in the GLIAC) April 2, permitting conditions at Ferris’ Varsity Softball Field have improved.
