More than just a hound dog

Elvis tribute concert to raise money for local organization

Mecosta County Companion Animal Resource/Education Society (CARES) will be putting on an Elvis concert with Elvis tribute artist Jake Slater.

Jennifer Thede, Ferris IT Offices Service Coordinator and Board Executive for Mecosta County CARES, said the concert is

$5 for Ferris students with a valid student ID and $15 for the general public.

All Elvis fans and the general public are encouraged to come.

“The goal of Mecosta County CARES is to reduce the pet population/unwanted pets,” Thede said.

She said this is the organization’s first major fundraiser, and last year’s outdoor show went well.

“We’re hoping to attract the same people,” Thede said.

The show is set to take place Saturday, April 6 at Crossroads Charter Academy Auditorium at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30.

Tickets can be pickd up tickets at Great Lakes Book & Supply, Kilwins/Old Pioneer and Emporium and Country Inns & Suites.

Thede said Mecosta County CARES provides financial assistance on a case-by-case basis and provides spay/neuter certificates.

“The fewer unwanted pets that come through the door, it will be easier on society and the workers of the shelter,” Thede said.

Any students interested in helping out with Mecosta County CARES can attend open meetings the first Wednesday of every month at St. Paul’s Church or email Thede at JenniferThede@nullferris.edu.
