The student government finance division allocated funds to four different organizations during its first meeting of the year.
The meeting was held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 in FLITE 304. After the allocations, the finance division’s remaining balance is $74,854.25. Student groups can request money through the finance division. For more information, contact Director of Finance Noah Moss.
Black Greek council fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha was granted $1,543.38 for the Miss Black and Gold Pageant, a national program that has been on campus for over 30 years.
Automotive management student organizations were given $1,999 to send students to the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show in November in Las Vegas.
Professional co-ed fraternity Delta Sigma Pi was allotted $1,423.32 to send students to Fall 2013 Delta Sigma Pi Lead School in October to help increase recruitment.
You Beautiful Black Women asked for $6,435 for the fourth annual comedy jam. This allocation will be brought to student government because it is over $2,000.
Moss “oversees the division and its members to ensure all groups requesting money are properly guided.”
“The finance division’s purpose is to oversee the student activity fee with appropriate approval of the general assembly,” Moss said. “Requests from RSOs can be a lengthy process—listening to all applications with careful consideration to ensure that each dollar allocated will benefit the student body as a whole. Therefore, division meetings are held on a separate occasion to allow necessary time for this process.”
Finance division meetings are held at 6 p.m. every other Tuesday in FLITE 304. The next meeting will be held Oct. 10.
