Dawgs bite Lakers

Regular season finale yields 20th victory and win over rival Grand Valley State

The Bulldogs took care of business when the rival Grand Valley State Lakers came to town, winning in comfortable fashion 77-55.

This victory gave the Bulldogs their 20th win of the season on the regular season finale.

The Bulldogs honored four players on senior night, as guards Drew Lehman, Dietrich Lever and Matt Poches, along with forward Matt Stoll earned their final regular season win before a home crowd of approximately 1,400 fans in Wink Arena.

Bulldog captain Lehman wasted no time getting his team mobilized, as he scored the first 10 points for Ferris State. The Dawgs rallied around their captain and controlled the entire game, as they never surrendered the lead at any point.

Lehman would go on to score 18 total points before the intermission, and dealt the assist to freshman guard Drew Cushingberry who drained a buzzer beating three-pointer just as the half came to an end to put the Bulldogs up 49-29 going into the locker room.

Ferris State refused to let off the gas pedal in the second half, as they continued to run up the score, while allowing little ground to be made up by the Lakers. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs walked off the court with a 77-55 victory under their belts.

Lehman led the team in points scored, netting 20 on the night while also dishing out seven assists. Freshman guard Noah King also had a significant impact, recording 17 points and two blocks in just 17 minutes played. It was as if Lehman was passing the torch to the next Bulldog guard on this senior night. Junior forward Josh Fleming also posted a good showing, scoring 13 points in the game.

The Bulldogs will hope to carry this momentum into the GLIAC Tournament, which will begin next Wednesday. The tournament bracket will be released soon after final results from this weekend’s games.
