Suits, résumés and hundreds of complimentary pens filled the Ewigleben Sports Complex during last week’s career and internship fair.
With more than 270 employers from across the U.S., this career fair was the largest ever at Ferris. Professionally-dressed students mingled with companies such as Nike and Consumers Energy, with some landing jobs and internships on the spot.
“It’s been great to see this interest in our students,” said Ferris President David Eisler. “I think it’s an acknowledgement by our industry and corporate partners that Ferris students graduate prepared for a position.”
The CLACS-sponsored week of career-oriented events also included an etiquette dinner, graduate school expo and a spotlight event on career opportunities with the State of Michigan. Career services coordinator Mickey Albright explained many companies in attendance had Ferris alumni recruiting at the event.
“The career fair provides students the opportunity to pitch themselves and get comfortable in a professional setting,” Albright said. “Companies have been pleased with the quality of their workforce so they want to come back to Ferris and recruit more.”
Albright also said the growth of the career fair in recent years indicates Michigan’s steadily-recovering economy has created plenty of jobs to fill.
“It’s not just the employer interviewing students for positions,” she said. “Now, the students are able to interview the employers.
