Dancers and revelers showed up to party at a late night event hosted by Entertainment Unlimited (EU) to start off the school year for students and the student organization.
Throwback Time Machine was the first music event of the school year on campus and was unique in its interactive and multimedia experience.
“In the past, we’ve done some things that were similar; we’ve done Silent Disco with headphones as a welcome back event,” said Lola Schultz, Ferris music industry management senior and president of EU. “We thought if that did well, then this would do well. This year, it’s a dance party with a DJ, and it has a cool throwback theme to it.”
The dance party covered songs from the last four decades and featured a button on stage to “throw back” the music and send the it to a different period in time, according to Josh Kinnersley, business manager at HD Spectrum LLC and associated with Throwback Time Machine.
“We wanted freshmen to come out and have a good time, get to know other freshmen and get to know our organization,” said Ty Carson, Ferris public relations senior and vice president of programming at EU. “Also, they get a chance to relive the music we know from the 80s, 90s and 2000s era.”
EU is just getting started for the semester and has several events lined up through the next few months, including a couple of five-star events.
“We try to bring in more diverse things and look at what people are presenting, and work with that to bring in fresher things,” Schultz said.
The next EU-hosted event will be a five-star event featuring Lauren Berger, also known as the Intern Queen, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the University Center Ballroom (UCB).
“She’s known as the intern because she completed 26 internships during her four-year span in college,” Carson said. “After college, she turned that idea into a business called Intern Queen Incorporated, and now she does a lot of talks around college campuses about professional readiness.”
The following events in October are Daniel Martin, The Magician at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Williams Auditorium and Nerdology at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, in the UCB. EU will also host Sex Signals, another five-star event, at 7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 19, in the UCB.
During November and December, EU will host two other events. Grocery Bingo will take place Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the UC Ballroom and hypnotist Tom Deluca will be performing Thursday, Dec. 1, in Williams Auditorium.
