Icy roads ahead

Ferris football spring game and men’s basketball championship celebration postponed

The Bulldogs will have to wait a little longer to get back in action on Top Taggart Field.

Ferris athletics announced on Friday, April 13,  that the annual Ferris football spring game will be moved to Friday, April 20, at 5 p.m. due to potential severe weather conditions. The game was originally scheduled forbSaturday, April 14, at 11:30 a.m.

Also moving to next Friday, April 20, at 7 p.m. is the men’s basketball championship celebration. Fans can come celebrate the NCAA Division II championship inside Wink Arena with several activities, including a replay of the game and an opportunity to pose with the trophy.

“We’re hopeful that moving both events to next Friday will result in much better weather and also create larger crowds for both events,” Ferris Athletic Director Perk Weisenburger said.

With snow and ice on its way toward Big Rapids, several leaders within the Ferris athletic department found it best for players and fans alike to reschedule the two events.

“With the weather forecast this weekend, it is not in the best interests of our student athletes, FSU students, fans, alumni and friends to hold these events on Saturday,” Weisenburger said. “Travel is not being recommended and we are determined that safety should be the biggest priority.”

While fans may have to wait to see their Bulldogs back on the field, one member of the Ferris football squad thinks it will benefit players and fans.

“I think it will be better weather conditions for the fans, which is really the point of the game,” Ferris junior wide receiver Malik Taylor said. “As far as the players, we’ve been practicing in this type of weather condition basically the whole spring, so we’re ready for anything.”

With another week to prepare, the Bulldogs will be fresh when their toes touch the turf once more.
