All afternoon and evening classes and events were canceled Wednesday, Sept. 5, due to a power outage across campus, according to an FSU Emergency Alert.

The alert notified students of the cancellation around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. An earlier FSU Emergency Alert was sent out around 1:10 p.m. informing students of the situation. The message assured students would be given more information as it became available.

Some students, such as Ferris environmental biology junior Jenna Birchfield, are frustrated by the power outage.

“From a student’s perspective, this is very disruptive,” Birchfield said. “First we have the strike, now this power outage. We should be learning, not dealing with setbacks.”

Ferris restaurant and food industry management sophomore Soraya Angel shared Birchfield’s concerns.

“I’m not able to do my homework because there’s no WiFi or power so I can’t plug my computer in to get it going and it’s just kind of throwing me off,” Angel said. “It is frustrating, yes, but, of course, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt.”

The Ferris Physical Plant and Ferris Department of Public Safety could not provide any additional information regarding the situation. It is unknown when power will be restored.
