Many students eagerly anticipate Ferris Family and Friends Weekend, full of scheduled activities across campus.
This year, the weekend is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 21. Though the event is fairly new this being its third year the previous years have already made a lasting impression on many Bulldogs, such as Ferris graphic design sophomore Sydney Hall.
“I loved it and my family really enjoyed it,” Hall said. “I would definitely recommend it. It’s a great de-stress-or with family.”
Ferris human resource management sophomore Kelsey McGovern said the event had also helped her show her family what campus life was
like.
“I liked it. We kind of just hung out and did a lot of stuff on campus, which was fun,” McGovern said. “They really liked campus
and they really liked how friendly everybody was.”
Having participated her freshman year, McGovern also talked about how it could help some students with their adjustment to college.
“It’s nice, especially for a freshman, because you’re just getting on campus, so it’s nice to get involved,” McGovern said.
For other Ferris students, this time of the semester can cause them to feel homesick. This event can be a great way to catch up with
loved ones and relax for a while, according to Ferris social work sophomore Lexi Manning.
“I had really missed them, so it was really nice seeing them,” Manning said. “They were like, ‘Ferris is so cool. This is so great.’”
Most of the scheduled events for Ferris Family and Friends Weekend are free and take place on campus, though some local businesses are
offering discounts on Saturday for participants.
Most events require wristbands and can be picked up at check-in the day of the event. The deadline to register for this year’s family and friends weekend is midnight Wednesday, Oct. 17.
