The FitDawgs is an RSO on the rise. These dawgs are not only concerned with getting fit, however.
Members advocate strongly for self-improvement as a whole. Along with supporting each other in their personal journeys at the gym, this RSO instructs all aspects of fitness.
Seasoned members specialize in all types of exercises. FitDawgs President Josh Moss is the calisthenics expert, but there are also members focused in powerlifting and CrossFit.
The FitDawgs make it a point to hit the Student Recreation Centre (Rec) at the “hot times,” the busiest hours between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., to act as a community resource for anyone in need. The group was originally started by a group who already possessed knowledge in fitness, bonding off each other’s intelligence. Lately, the group has transitioned into finding ways experts can teach “newbies.”
At each weekly meeting the FitDawgs discuss their monthly fitness goals and congratulate members on their accomplishments. They even feature a FitDawg of the Month.
The FitDawgs RSO is a good fit for students looking for guidance and friends to stay fit with. A lot of students are concerned with bettering themselves and being in an RSO for fitness can create more accountability and motivation.
“I love working out, period,” Moss stated. “I wanted to be a part of something greater than myself, around likeminded people. We wanted to be a fitness group around campus that just helps other people.”
FitDawgs Treasurer Austin Robison heard about the RSO from a friend, and joined, essentially, because he needed a spotter.
“I was tired of lifting by myself,” Robison said. “When you start lifting heavy in the gym you need to have someone to catch the weight if you drop it.”
One of the more exciting events the FitDawgs participate in is the yearly trip to the Arnold Classic WorldWide (ACW). The ACW is an opportunity to meet your fitness world idols, take part in ninja courses, watch live powerlifting competitions, and collect as many free samples as your heart desires. The ACW takes place March 6-8 in Columbus, Ohio and the FitDawgs fundraise all year for the event.
For more information, find the RSO on Instagram @ferrisstatefitdawgs as well as on Bulldog Connect. They hold weekly meetings every Thursday in UC 209 at 7 p.m. and will be hosting a ‘Hit Class’ on Friday, Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in honor of “Love Your Body Week.”
