Junior running back Kannon Katzer announced he would be entering the transfer portal on Friday.

In his first year with Ferris this season, Katzer ran for 1,128 yards alongside 14 touchdowns. He was the first Bulldog to rush for 1,000 yards since Andrew Terry in 2004.

Katzer declared his decision on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating he will remain with the team until the spring semester’s conclusion.

“After talking with my family I have decided to officially enter the transfer portal,” Katzer said. ‘I will be lifting and practicing with my current school until the end of the semester.”

Katzer, who has two years of eligibility remaining, led the Bulldogs’ backfield en route to their third national championship in the last four years after transferring from Washington State, capturing the trophy in his lone campaign with Ferris.

Shortly after his original post, Katzer took to X to announce his first full-ride scholarship offer from Division I University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

The Bulldogs roster still sports several backs following National Signing Day where Ferris brought in four additional rushers. Sophomore Zak Ahern is expected to continue his backfield duties after appearing in 12 games for Ferris this past season, rushing for 195 yards.

With this announcement coming today, Katzer’s portal suitors are unclear, but he should be expected to gain interest from many programs following his historic season.
