After losing power for several hours on April 3, around 500 students who live in Cramer Hall, Bond Hall and West Campus Apartments received an email informing them that they may be required to relocate.
The email was sent at 6:17 p.m. and offered students in Cramer Hall and Bond Hall the option of temporary housing or a $100 student credit if they chose to stay elsewhere.
“Students in Cramer and Bond halls will need to leave their residence halls by 10 p.m. Thursday and will not have access to their room until power has been restored,” the email said. “Students should take clothing, bedding and any other supplies they might need as they leave. Students should remove all perishables from their rooms and empty their trash.”
Students who need temporary housing should find the ‘power outage temporary housing form’ to fill out according to the email.
The email also stated that students with specific needs at West Campus apartments should contact housing by email or phone. Any student without a meal plan who has been affected will also have the option to eat at the Rock Cafe.
A statement was released by Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications David Murray about the relocation.
“Ferris State is temporarily relocating about 500 students after storm-related damage caused power outages in two residence halls, a campus apartment complex and several other facilities,” Murray said. “Students in Cramer Hall, Bond Hall and the West Campus Apartments are affected. Cramer and Bond Hall students will be able to stay in vacant rooms in other residence halls and potentially other locations. West Campus Apartment residents can be relocated if needed.”
According to the email, the power is expected to be restored after the weekend, as most of the repair teams are in Northern Michigan after the recent ice storm.
