On April 1, 2025, Entertainment Unlimited posted that the NLE Choppa concert set to happen on April 8 is being postponed and rescheduled.
The postponement was posted on social media, stating “A Ferris State performance of NLE Choppa has been postponed, due to illness.”
Criminal justice freshman Kaliyah Lockhart was looking forward to attending the concert as a fan of NLE Choppa’s older music.
Since being at Ferris, Lockhart was surprised to discover that moving to a college town like Big Rapids didn’t leave much room for entertainment and attractions.
“Big Rapids itself is boring. So, the fact that someone of even a little fame was going to be here was exciting,” Lockhart said.
Like other students on campus, when Lockhart saw that the concert was postponed, she assumed it was an April Fool’s Day prank.
However, Entertainment Unlimited quickly responded to confused comments on social media posts, confirming the event was, in fact, canceled. Since the event was postponed due to sickness, Lockhart is concerned that the spring concert will not happen or that NLE Choppa will no longer be the performer.
Lockhart is not the only student on campus doubting that the concert will be rescheduled. Television and digital media sophomore Rockne Smith is also in doubt with the suspicion that the postponement announcement that Entertainment Unlimited made was too vague and the lack of context and answers is only making Smith doubt more.
Smith attended the Waka Flocka Flame concert as a Ferris student with a group of his friends. He was looking forward to the NLE Choppa concert as he had friends from his hometown also coming up
“Chances seem kind of slim right now, in my opinion, I feel like [NLE Choppa] is a big name artist at the moment and so he’s a hard guy to get anywhere, especially Big Rapids,” Smith said.
Smith mentioned that there is more to his disappointment than just the concert, he had to cancel his plans with friends. After the concert was announced, Smith contacted his friends from his hometown and invited them up.
“I’m very disappointed because I haven’t seen my friends from back home in a while and this was something I was looking forward to attending with them,” Smith said.
Without a set date to plan around busy work and class schedules, Smith’s hopes for a day with his friends are also diminishing along with his hopes that he will be able to attend the spring concert.
At the time of this article, the reason for the concert’s postponement has not been released to the university.
Entertainment Unlimited declined the Torch’s request for an interview.
