Graduation is quickly approaching for seniors who will be walking this spring.
For many college students, this can be a very exhilarating time. For others, it’s daunting as they prepare to step into the unknown.
Facility management senior Logan Koutz talked about his college experience and what the next season of life holds for him.
“I’m excited and scared for the next chapter of my life,” Koutz said. “I will be moving to Utah in June to work for the Grand Hyatt in Deer Valley.”
Koutz further explained his conflicting feelings about moving across the United States.
“Moving across the country is scary, but I’m excited for the new adventure,” Koutz said.
Many students have expressed gratitude for the people in their lives throughout college, reporting that it’s difficult to make it through without a good support system.
For Koutz, the people who surrounded him have had a monumental impact on his college experience.
“My classmates have been a huge help through college,” Koutz said. “Working together on projects or just hanging out. I wouldn’t have been able to make it through without them.”
The graduating seniors had a lot to say about their time at Ferris, sharing what has helped them make it to graduation, as well as what has challenged them along the way.
English senior Renee Gauthier shared what her college experience was like, as well as her feelings about where she is headed.
“Honestly, I feel fine about graduating,” Gauthier said. “It’s a little unreal still, and I’m a little concerned about not having anything set in stone, but I feel like graduating is an inevitability and not something to fear.”
For Gauthier, stepping into a new phase of life and career is exciting.
“I’m kind of excited. I know that having a career is going to be its own obstacle to face, but I am not somebody who plans to lock in one job for the rest of my life and let that career consume me,” Gauthier said.
Applying for jobs after graduation can be concerning and sometimes frustrating for Ferris students graduating in uncertain times.
Applying for and finding a job has been more of a minor annoyance for Gauthier, as she took steps to mitigate stress this past semester.
“Applying for jobs in this job market is kind of annoying,” Gauthier said. “I made sure I didn’t have to stress too much this semester by taking a calmer class load.”
It is an exciting time of the year for many seniors as they prepare for their new career paths and experiences.
Integrative studies senior Neven Johnson shared his feelings about approaching graduation.
“I am excited to graduate, and I have no reservations about my time spent at Ferris,” Johnson said.
While many students focus solely on the knowledge they have acquired, Johnson reflected more on his excitement to apply his newfound skills.
“Post-college is an exciting thing for me, and I can’t wait to use the skills I’ve developed to enter the workforce,” Johnson said.
With graduation being so close, reality is setting in for the seniors who will walk across the stage soon and hold proof of their hard work in their hands.
Senior year is sometimes challenging for students as they finish out high-level classes in their last semester.
Many students, such as Johnson, are determined to push through and complete their final few assignments and exams.
“Leading up to graduation, the only concern for me is finishing strong, making sure to do my best work through to the last day,” Johnson said.
These seniors have worked and studied for countless hours to get to where they are now.
In just a couple of short weeks, they will finally receive the degrees they have worked so hard for.
