After the graduation of my boss, Connor Grypma, I am beyond excited to take over the role as the sports editor for this upcoming year.
First off, my name is Nolan Matthews. I have been a sports reporter with the Torch since March of 2024. I am currently a junior, and I am majoring in sports communications with minors in journalism and history.

Sports at Ferris are always changing, and with the sports section here at the Torch, we have the role of spreading the word to all of our readers. Here are a few things I would like to implement for the sports section next year.
Over the past year, Grypma has done an excellent job of putting the sports section in a great spot. We were able to get away from relying on game recaps and focusing more on game previews and athlete feature stories.
For this upcoming year, I would like to double down on athlete feature stories, as I believe being able to tell athletes interesting stories is where the sports section thrives. I would also like to do more same-day reporting, which would give our online readers who did not get a chance to make it to the game the ability to read a recap of a game shortly thereafter the game finishes.
I am elated about what this sports section can do as a team for this upcoming year. Bringing the best stories about Ferris athletics is what I will strive to do as editor, and I will make sure we provide this to the reader at the highest quality possible.
