The stabbing occurred in Brophy Hall, according to Ferris News Services Manager Sandy Gholston. Ferris State’s campus-wide emergency alert system initially reported the stabbing occurred off campus at Oakwood Townhouses.
UPDATE: 9:40 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23
Police have learned the stabbing took place on campus in a Ferris residence hall.
The suspect and the victim, both Ferris students, live in the residence hall and are acquainted with one another, according to a press release from the university.
The suspect was arrested without incident and is being held in the Mecosta County Jail. He will be arraigned Monday, Feb. 24, at the Mecosta County Courthouse.
UPDATE: 6:45 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23
The suspect in the Oakwood stabbing was arrested late Sunday afternoon, according to a university press release.
Both the suspect and the victim are Ferris students.
Neither individual’s identity has been released.
Ferris Department of Public Safety has “taken on a greater role” as more details have surfaced over the course of the investigation. Ferris officers collaborated with other agencies to make the arrest.
