It’s the middle of the spring semester and most of us are feeling burned out and we just want school to be over. I’ve taken it upon myself to compile a playlist of songs that will help you feel better—or at least let you know that you’re not alone in your misery. To make things even better, all of these songs are available on Spotify for your listening pleasure. Hooray!
.)“This Year” by The Mountain Goats: The chorus of this song is “I am gonna make it through this year if it kills me.” I really feel that this statement is an accurate representation of how most of us are feeling at this point in the school year.
.)“Blue Skies” by Noah and the Whale: Does school have you heartbroken? Are you unable to leave your bed? If so, this is song is for you.
.)“Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees: Life goin’ nowhere. Somebody help me.
.)“Who Needs Sleep?” by Barenaked Ladies: Yeah, who needs sleep when you can pull an all-nighter cramming for your mid-term exams?
.)“Message in a Bottle” by The Police: You sent a SOS out to the world and I found it, so I made this playlist to rescue you. You’re welcome.
.)“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves: It’s impossible to feel depressed while listening to this song. Go ahead and try. You will fail, much like how you’re failing all of your classes. J
.)“We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister: This song will make you want to drop out of college and start a revolution against The Man.
.)“Denial Style” by Architecture in Helsinki: Finally, a song all about your preferred method of dealing with deadlines.
.)“I Am a Rock” by Simon and Garfunkel: You are a rock, you are an iiiiiiiiiiisland. You feel no pain and you never cry.
.) “Help, I’m Alive” by Metric: Does the anxiety from your upcoming project have your heart beating like a hammer, beating like a hammer, beating like a hammer, beating like a hammer?
.) “Hibernate” by Pretty and Nice: Isn’t that what you wish you were doing right now instead of going to school?
.) “Touch of Grey” by Grateful Dead: You will get by. You will survive.
.) “Drops in the River” by Fleet Foxes: I actually don’t have a sarcastic comment for this one. This is a genuinely calming song to listen to when you’re stressed.
.) “Ukulele Anthem” by Amanda Palmer: So is this one. It’s cute, it’s funny, and it will make you want to take up playing the ukulele immediately (which can consequently become yet another distraction from doing your homework, yay).
.) “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor: I don’t really think this song requires an explanation. Make this your mantra for the next 2 months.
Hopefully this playlist will help alleviate some of the trauma and pain you’ve been experiencing since late August.
