Two suspects of an attempted robbery involving a handgun in the West Campus Apartments have been arraigned in district court.
On Jan. 22, suspects Demetrius Milan, 19, and DeMarko Williams, 21, were arrested for threatening West Campus Apartment occupants in an attempted robbery. According to Department of Public Safety Sergeant Tim Jacobs, DPS arrived at the West Campus Apartments after receiving a call reporting a possible disturbance in the area.
No injuries were reported and both suspects were lodged in Mecosta County jail. Following their initial arrests, each suspect was presented with 24 charges including armed robbery and home invasion. Suspect Demetrius Milan also received a 25th charge for carrying a concealed weapon.
Jacobs said DPS is currently taking an effective role in ensuring a reduction in crime on campus.
“We canvassed the area and spoke with residents to report disturbances within the neighborhood,” said Jacobs. “We always encourage everyone to contact DPS if they feel there is any disturbance.”
The West Campus Apartments are located at the west end of campus near Ferris’ Department of Public Safety and Optometry Building.
Currently, Williams has been released on bond. Milan remains lodged in the Mecosta County jail awaiting trial. Neither suspect was a Ferris State University student or lived in the Big Rapids area.
