For the third straight year, the Ferris men’s tennis team are GLIAC tournament champions.
The 20-2 Bulldogs didn’t lose a single set on the weekend, defeating Davenport and Wayne State each by scores of 5-0. The Bulldogs eliminated fifth seed Davenport on Saturday, April 22.
The Bulldogs jumped to a 3-0 lead after a strong doubles round and were able to bury the Panthers after a pair of singles victories by sophomore Austin DeBruyne and freshman Mathis Guerre.
Ferris swept the weekend with a 5-0 win over Wayne State on Sunday, April 22. Wayne State, the second seed in the event, failed to slow down the Bulldogs’ effort that has won Ferris 17 games in a row.
The victory came exactly two weeks after the Bulldogs were able to defeat the Warriors on the road by a score of 5-4. This time, Wayne State was no match.
Ferris was once again able to finish 3-0 in the round of doubles before Guerre and sophomore Pablo Munoz Baroja were able to end the weekend with a pair of singles victories.
The Bulldogs went undefeated in conference action all year, claiming their fourth straight regular season GLIAC championship before sweeping through the tournament last weekend for their third straight GLIAC tournament championship.
Although the Bulldogs were almost guaranteed a spot before the tournament, Ferris locked up a spot in the Midwest Regional that begins on Saturday, April 28. Ferris will be one of the top seeds in the event, in what will be win or go home.
