Celebrate the champions
The Ferris men’s basketball team held a free “Celebrate the Champions” night on Friday, April 20, as the team was honored in a unique way in Jim Wink Arena.
The special event was held for Ferris students, staff, fans and alumni.
The night began with a replay of the National Championship game on CBS and speeches from players and coaches.
The event also featured special games featuring the players and included autographs from the players, photos with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II trophy and shooting contests with the players.
In conclusion of the event, Head Coach Andy Bronkema and senior wing Noah King participated in the “Shave Their Beards” fundraiser for Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy in honor of Mitchell Peterson, who is the brother of Ferris sophomore guard Michael Peterson. Mitchell Peterson has been part of the Bulldog men’s basketball team this year as an honorary member.
The newest Falcon
Huge news struck the Ferris athletics community on Wednesday, April 18, as former defensive tackle Justin Zimmer signed with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.
Zimmer spent last year in training camp with the New Orleans Saints and then became a member of the Montreal Alouettes, a Canadian League team.
Zimmer finished his Bulldog athletic career as a three-time All-GLIAC First Team selection. Zimmer was held in high honors in his time in Big Rapids as he was a nominee for the Gene Upshaw NCAA Division II Lineman of the Year Award and the Cliff Harris National Small College Defensive Player of the Year Award during his senior campaign in 2015.
