Eight states have now reported a cash shortage that has left ATMs empty and high restrictions on withdrawals at banks for the second time in the past 18 months. According to economists, the cash shortage is the government’s fault, which causes a political threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently under criticism for his silence over the violent gang rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl.

Managua, Nicaragua
Thousands of demonstrators clashed with government security forces in the streets of the capital for the third day. Two citizens and one police officer have been killed during the protests and dozens more have been wounded. The violent protests are in opposition to the newly announced changes in the social security program and college students and retirees alike have joined the demonstrations.

Havana, Cuba
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez became Cuba’s new president on Thursday, April 19, and is the first person outside of the Castro family to lead the country in decades. Díaz-Canel has served as Vice President to Raúl Castro since 2013 but has remained a quiet leader behind the scenes. He is projected to serve two terms, which means the next 10 years.

Fuzhou, China
One kangaroo is dead and another injured after visitors at a zoo pelted the kangaroos with rocks in an attempt to get them to move. The incident happened a month ago but public disgust has surfaced this week when a local newspaper published the story. This is not the first time the zoo has tolerated this behavior.
