Stay active
If you are looking to compete in a collegiate level sport but are worried about how much time you must commit to the sport, look no further than one of your Ferris club sport teams. With over 25 teams to choose from, there is a sport for everyone that still wants to practice and compete in the game they played growing up or try out a new sport they have never played before. While some club teams do take their sport serious, it is not as strenuous and time-consuming as it may be to play a sport regulated by the NCAA. Getting involved with a club sport is a nice way to get your mind off school, make new friends and stay active. If you are interested, check your email as most teams send out information regarding tryouts. For more information, visit the Ferris website and search for ‘club sports,’ where it will show you a list of all of the teams offered as well as contact information.
Dawgs going pro
After a fantastic senior season, former Ferris men’s basketball point-guard Drew Cushingberry signed a one-year contract with the St. John’s Edge, who are a part of the National Basketball League of Canada. The Edge, located in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, played their inaugural season in 2017-18 where they posted a final record of 25-15, which placed them second in the division. The Edge went on to lose in the division finals of the playoffs. Cushingberry looks to bring his skills to the Edge after an accomplished season with the Bulldogs, where he averaged 13.9 points per game. The Edge are set to start their season in November.
Division II Player of the Week
The Bulldog volleyball team started the season 4-0 after facing many tough opponents, one of them being No. 1 ranked overall in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) polls. As the Bulldogs played well as a whole, Ferris junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel stood out enough to be named the AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. Cappel was also named the GLIAC’s North Division Player of the Week. Playing a pivotal role to the 4-0 start, Cappel earned the reward by posting 4.64 kills per set as well as averaging 3.86 digs per set.
