Europe: Members of the European Council reached a deal to redistribute some migrant asylum seekers to other countries in Europe. The deal was struck in order to take burden off of countries like Italy, Greece, and Malta which are receiving a large amount of migrants due to the policy of aid ships dropping migrants off at the nearest safe port. The new deal will ensure that other European Union states open their ports to migrants.

Nairobi, Kenya: Dozens of students were injured and at least seven killed when a school building in Kenya collapsed. Kenya’s education minister says that a second level was added to the school without planning permission. Kenyatta National Hospital reported that 64 students were being treated and that “…the children are stable as they receive treatment.”

Jakarta, Indonesia: Violent protests in Indonesia left 20 civilians dead as protesters torched government buildings, shops and homes. The protests started after rumors that a teacher had insulted an indigenous student in the province of Papua. Most deaths came from those trapped in burning buildings, though the police also killed three protesters. About 65 civilians were injured and five police officers were critically injured according to a Papua military spokesman.
