Entertainment Unlimited has announced that Ferris will be hosting Trevor Wallace as the Homecoming comedian.
Wallace is a stand-up and social media comic with a wide range of bits, but is most known for his frat boy content. Like many other younger comedians, the 30-year-old began making videos on Vine, an old platform known for making six second long looping videos. One of his most popular videos “ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws” came out in 2019 and the internet greeted him with follows, likes and subscriptions.
Information security and intelligence sophomore Logan Cosgrove has been following Wallace since before he made it big. He’s excited for him to come to Ferris because of how long he’s been following Wallaces’ career. Cosgrove would rather see comedians over musicians.
“I find [Wallace] a great online personality and would love to see how that corresponds to his stand-up routine,” Cosgrove said. “I feel like unless you don’t like laughter, anyone can go see a comedian.”
Wallace is most recognized for his online presence, which has had over 2.5 billion views and maintains more than 16 million followers across all social media platforms. He has given performances at numerous festivals, including the Moontower Comedy Festival, the New York Comedy Festival and Netflix Is A Joke. He has also appeared in numerous well-known media outlets, including Comedy Central, MTV, Barstool Sports, The L.A. Times, and The New York Times.
Criminal justice senior Faith Faille has been excited about this news since the announcement as she’s been hoping for Wallace to perform here. Faille believes that having a younger comedian like Wallace perform will be better for the students to understand his comedy.
“The comedians in the past have all been older like some of them are our parent’s age and some of them haven’t been that well known within our generation,” Faille said. “Trevor Wallace is different. If you have TikTok, you have seen him, he’s all over social media and has been for years and everyone loves him. Most of his content is based on college so he knows what is funny to college kids.”
As the President of the Resident Hall Association, Faille tried to pull some strings to get Trevor Wallace to perform at Ferris just last year.
“I had talked to some of the members of RHA as well as EU about the fact that I thought it would be a great idea if there was any way we could get him to come to Ferris,” Faille said. “When they announced it I couldn’t believe it.”
EU President Kaitlyn Walters wanted to try something new this year as it’s been difficult finding comedians that mesh well with Ferris and their students.
“It has been hit or miss with the comedians in the past and we wanted to try and breathe new light into the type of comedian we had, we wanted someone who has grown into a social media influencer,” Walters said.
Based on the reactions EU has received on the announcement, Walters believes that this year Wallace will give Ferris one of the best performances to date.
“We could tell people were excited, since then we have had more people come up to us and ask how they were able to join our RSO,” Walters said. “You won’t want to miss this shower with Trevor, it will be a night to remember and a great way to celebrate homecoming week.”
EU is planning Ferris’ homecoming week for the first time this year. Aside from just choosing the entertainment act, they’re planning the parade, a corn hole tournament, a bonfire and Ferris’ first homecoming dance.
“Normally there is a student homecoming committee outside of EU that plans homecoming. This year Ferris admin thought EU would be a good fit to plan it because we have planned similar events in the past and have proven to be successful,” Walters said.
Wallace will be performing at the Williams Auditorium on Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. The show will be free to students and the public. Early entrance for students with their Ferris ID will be at 6:30 p.m. and doors will open for the public at 7 p.m.
