With the Spring Concert underway, Ruby Opalite and the band The Lazy Susan have been announced as the official openers for 3OH!3.

Both performances are excited to show off their unique talents in music as they open for 3OH!3, and they are both thankful for the opportunity.

The acts have been practicing long and hard for a moment like the Spring Concert to come around. They have expressed their gratitude as well as their outstanding talent after loads of practice and hard work.

For some, including music and entertainment business senior Olivia Lentner, stage name Ruby Opalite, singing has been with her as she grew up.

“I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember,” Lenter said.” I’ve seen videos of me when I was very little, just performing for my family and then I sang for my aunt’s wedding when I was like seven. This is the first time I’ve been in front of a crowd that big in five years, so it just feels amazing and nerve-racking.”

During her time on campus, Lentner has also expressed her singing voice during open mic nights. Bringing her carefree and spirited personality to the stage.

“I would say setting the vibe is very important, making sure the energy is where it needs to be, and just like getting a feel for the crowd for them to know like what they are going to be getting from a concert.” Lentner said.

Lentner has secured her spot as an opening act alongside the rock band trio, The Lazy Susan.

The drummer in The Lazy Susan,  band and music and entertainment business senior Brayden Sandstedt, shared his thoughts on playing the spring concert with the rest of the band members.

“I think it’s really important to be thankful to get that opportunity to do that. But also, in terms of our band really showcase our skills and abilities,” Sandstedt said. “We don’t really get to play on big stages like that usually. So, it’s a great chance for us to really practice what we’re good at, but also connect with fellow students it’s going to be a lot of students.”

Since forming in 2022, the band has played at previous venues, including their first festival, Woodstock in Holland, Michigan. They have expanded their horizons by making merchandise to sell at the concert.

“We are kind of known for playing in people’s living rooms, house parties, the parade on a float, that kind of deal,” Sandstedt said. “So yeah, it feels great to be an opening act. I remember going to the spring concert last year, and it was a really good time, and I was excited, and I was thinking in my head, ‘I would love to do that next year.’ “

Students are awaiting the opening acts and the main event as the concert date slowly closes in.

Criminal justice senior Arabella Beckhorn commented on her excitement for the concert and the acts.

“I have seen and heard of both of them. They’re both great performers. I’m really excited for it and I’m really excited for them to have that opportunity,” Beckhorn said.

Both acts have expressed their gratitude as well as their outstanding talent after loads of practice and hard work, showing dedication and determination.

Coordinator for the Center of Student Involvement and advisor for Entertainment Unlimited Ben Avery described how the audition process works. Each act had auditioned for the opening act spot back in February alongside various other student acts.

“EU members were asked to vote for their top pick(s) for the student opener slot based on both ability/talent as well as how well the artists’ sound complemented the type of music that 3OH!3 provides,” Avery said. “EU, by popular vote, felt that The Lazy Susan and Ruby Opalite were the best fit based on their ability to put on a show that will complement our headliner, 3OH!3.”

The Spring Concert is on April 3 with free admission for Ferris students.
