No. 15 ranked Ferris State women’s basketball team soared by Great Lakes Christian with a season-high 103 points.
The Bulldogs took down the Crusaders by a score of 103-50 to improve to 4-1 and secure the win in the home opener. Ferris dished out a season-high 32 assists on just 39 made shots.
Head coach Kurt Westendorp was elated with how his offense moved the ball.
“We love to share the basketball,” Westendorp said. “We made it a point of emphasis to cut down on the dribble dribble and cut and move off the ball more, and we really succeeded that that.”
Ferris wasted no time to grab an early lead, going on an 11-0 run in the first four minutes and not letting a Great Lakes Christian field goal until there was 5:51 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs ended the first quarter up 30-10, playing stifling defense and recording seven steals in the first ten minutes of the game. The second quarter was much of the same as Ferris would take a 55-24 lead going into the break.
Shots were falling for the Bulldogs as they shot 46.5% from the field (20/43) and 39.1% from three (9/23).
The team didn’t slow down there, using the lead they built up and continued to dominate for the rest of the game, closing it out and extending their lead to 53 to end the game.
Ferris dominated the glass recording 24 offensive and 36 defensive rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be back home for a two-game stand next week versus Northwood on Wednesday and an NCAA DII tournament rematch versus Ashland on Saturday.
