Two-time National Coach of the year named head coach

Ferris State men’s basketball has found its new head coach, two-time national coach of the year and the 2024 Division III national champion in Brooks Miller.

Miller had served this past season as the associate head coach at Division I Central Michigan under former Bulldog head coach Andy Bronkema. Before this, Miller led DIII Trine University to the 2024 national championship while helping build one of the nation’s top DIII programs.

In his time with the Thunder, Miller had a record of 247-121, including a 142-73 record against MIAA opponents. In his 2024 championship year, Miller guided the Thunder to a 29-4 record, which is a record for the most in a season for Trine.

Miller also led the Thunder to MIAA Championships in 2019, 2021 and 2024, and finished 2021 with a 17-0 conference record.

Miller gave a statement to Bulldog fans.

“I’m extremely grateful to Dr. Bill Pink, Steve Brockelbank, and the hiring committee for choosing me to be the next head basketball coach at Ferris State University,” said Miller. “I am honored to be a part of the championship tradition that began many years ago under Coach Jim Wink and was continued by two of my closest colleagues and mentors, Bill Sall and Andy Bronkema. My family and I couldn’t be happier to be joining the Big Rapids community and representing Ferris State.”

Before becoming the head coach for Trine, Miller worked as an assistant coach under three Hall of Fame coaches, with a combined seven national championships.

Miller started off with Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame coach Ed Douma who he worked with at Hillsdale. Serving as a graduate assistant coach at Texas Tech University in 2007, he worked under Naismith Hall of Famer Bobby Knight. In 2009, he became the Head Assistant Men’s Basketball coach and national recruiting coordinator at South Plains College, where he worked for Junior College Hall of Famer Steve Green.
