The Vagina Monologues are Back in Action

Events are in the works to raise awareness for this years production

The Vagina Monologues are fast approaching and fundraisers to kick off the event are already under way.

The Vagina Monologues consist of different stories from women all over the world. The stories deal with different issues that all relate to the womanhood in one way or another.

“The Vagina Monologues is part of the national V-Day Campaign started by author Eve Ensler. V-Day is a worldwide movement to stop violence in all forms against women and girls,” said Liz Albright, co-coordinator for the FSU Vagina Monologues.

“Every year a new spotlight piece is written to highlight a problem area and this years is violence in the Democratic Republic of Conflict.”

Ferris State students will be putting on the Vagina Monologues production again this year to help raise money for the national campaign and to support the Women’s Information Service, Inc. (WISE).

“Ferris State Vagina Monologues is a proud supporter of WISE, Inc, which supplies many services to women of our community including domestic violence and adult sexual assault services, counseling, advocacy, and emergency shelter,” said Albright.

On Feb. 6 from 3 to 6 p.m. there will be a fundraiser held at the Biggby in Big Rapids to raise support and money for the Vagina Monologues. $1 from every purchase will be donated to the Vagina Monologues from this event. All of the proceeds from this event will also benefit WISE.

Besides the fundraiser event, there is also a nomination process in the works. Students are encouraged to nominate the 6th Annual Vagina Monologues – Vagina Warrior. The nominee can be a student, staff member, or community member.

The Vagina Warrior is someone that “exemplifies excellence in leadership, passion for service and has established a commitment to public conscientiousness.” The nominees will be reviewed by a student coordinator and staff advisor.

Nominations for Vagina Warrior must be submitted to becka@nullferris.edu by Feb. 12 at 4:59 p.m. The winner of the Vagina Warrior award will be announced on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. before the first production.

The Vagina Monologues will be presented beginning Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now for $8, but will be $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Williams Auditorium ticket office from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased online at
