The Ferris Flag will be lowered at half-staff on May 18 to honor a student who recently died.

Ferris student Ashley M. Cottle, 22, was enrolled in the Elementary Education program. Cottle died on May 11 at Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. The university was informed of her death on May 17.

Funeral services will be held on May 18 at the Resurrection Life Church in Big Rapids. Interment will take place at Highland View Cemetery following the service.

Cottle graduated from Crossroads Charter Academy High School in 2006 and was working to complete her Child Development associate degree during the Summer 2011 semester.

She also worked through Mecosta-Osceola ISD in the Just 4’s preschool program at Crossroads Charter Academy and Stanwood Elementary School.

Cottles’ obituary in the Big Rapids Pioneer said, “Ashley loved working with children and her goal in life was to teach at a children’s hospital.”

A Facebook page titled “Ashley Cottle –what can you do??” was started in Cottles’ honor to help out her husband, Joey Cottle, and their 4-month old daughter, Olivea.

In addition, her obituary also said memorial contributions may be made in Ashley’s name to ease the expenses her family may incur during this time. Those interested in contributing should make checks payable to
Crossroads Charter Academy. In the memo, write “Ashley Cottle.”
