Women’s Volleyball captures regular season title

Ferris volleyball completed their regular-season 24-2 overall and 18-1 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs claimed a regular-season championship title and have the privilege of being the top seed in the GLIAC Tournament. The nationally 12th-ranked Bulldogs will host Wayne State University in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Ewigleben Sports Arena. If the Bulldogs can defeat WSU, Ferris will go on to host the semifinals and finals of the tournament Nov. 12-13. The Bulldogs are undefeated at home and have defeated WSU in their only meeting this year at the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

GLIAC adds more competition to its roster

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has expanded by the addition of two universities from Ohio. Malone University and Walsh University will officially become members in the conference on July 1, 2012. Malone and Walsh Universities will join a league that has 14 full members. Until the NCAA grants each institution full Division II membership, Malone and Walsh will be provisional members of the GLIAC. For the 2012-13 season, Malone and Walsh will not be eligible for GLIAC postseason championships or tournaments for sports that have an NCAA Division II automatic qualification.

Get caught up with Ferris Basketball

The GLIAC preseason polls have been released for both men’s and women’s basketball. The early season consensus places the men to finish third in the GLIAC North Division. Senior guard Jerrel Sanders was named. Ferris snagged a 91-78 preseason win against Grace Bible (Ill.) Nov. 2, after dropping their first exhibition tilt to Michigan State. Ferris begins their regular season with back-to-back games Nov. 11-12. Ferris will begin the season against NCAA Division I Michigan at 7 p.m. in Ann Arbor. Then Ferris will face Central Michigan the next evening in Mt. Pleasant also scheduled for 7 p.m.

Member’s of the media took a vote determining the women’s basketball team’s fate for the upcoming season. The media expects the women’s basketball team to finish fifth in the GLIAC North Division after the GLIAC preseason poll. Ferris is coming off a 13-13 record from the season prior to this year. The Bulldogs lost their first exhibition game of the preseason. The women’s basketball team will begin the 2011-12 season Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. against Lewis (Ill.) inside Wink Arena.

Bri Borgman named to All-GLIAC

Senior forward Bri Borgman finished her Bulldog career with 35 goals, eight assists and 78 total points in 74 career matches. Her 10-goal, 22-point performance this season led to her being named to the All-GLIAC team. She is ranked third in goals, fourth in points, and 10th in assists in the soccer program’s history. Borgman also tallied 10 game winning goals in her career with the Bulldogs, ranking second in Ferris’ history. The Bulldogs soccer team was knocked out of the GLIAC tournament against Ashland on Nov. 1 in a 1-0 decision. The Bulldogs held an 11-4 shots advantage despite the loss. Ferris concluded the season 7-9-3 overall.
