Several Bulldog volleyball players named to All-GLIAC team
FSU volleyball coach Tia Brandel-Wilhem was named GLIAC “Coach of the Year.” Her Bulldog team has put together a 26-3 overall record and finished GLIAC play 18-1. Six players earned all-conference honors. Senior outside hitter Ashley Huntey, junior setter Samantha Fordyce and junior middle-hitter Anne Sutton were awarded first team All-GLIAC status. Senior libero Lisa Tobiczyk and freshman middle hitter Courtney Rehm were second team All-GLIAC honorees. In addition, Rehm was named GLIAC “Freshman of the Year” while Tobiczyk was named GLIAC “Libero of the Year.” Junior outside hitter Aly Brecht earned GLIAC Honorable Mention laurels.
Two Bulldog Hockey players named as CCHA Players of the Week
After helping the Bulldogs sweep Bowling Green State (Ohio) Nov. 4-5, senior center Jordie Johnston and senior defenseman Brett Wysopal were given the league’s weekly honor for the week of Nov. 7-14. Johnston was named “Offensive Player of the Week” after earning four points (2G, 2A) against Bowling Green State. He currently has 10 points (6G, 4A) this season.
Wysopal was named the league’s “Defenseman of the Week” after scoring two goals against Bowling Green. He also compiled a +5 rating and blocked two of the Falcons’ shots. Wysopal has seven points (2G, 5A) this season.
FSU Volleyball player named GLIAC Player of the Week
Senior outside-hitter Ashley Huntey was named GLIAC North Division “Player of the Week” for the week of Nov. 7-14. Huntey was awarded the distinction after totaling 53 kills in the final week of regulation. The Bulldogs played three road games to finish the season in which Huntey helped lead the team offensively. She also held double-digits in digs for each road match, combining defense and offense for three double-doubles to finish the regular season. This was the fourth time during the volleyball season that Huntey received this honor. n
