Ferris to host Spaghetti Bridge Competition

Ferris will be hosting the 13th Annual Spaghetti Bridge Competition, which will feature eighteen four-member teams from high schools all over Michigan.

The competition is set to take place March 23 from 12:30-5:30 p.m. and March 24 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Rankin Dome Room. The event is free and open to the public.

The students competing have a chance at winning cash or Ferris scholarships. The purpose of the spaghetti bridge competition is to create a scaled reproduction of a bridge using two pounds of spaghetti and three lasagna noodles.

Students compete in four categories: an authentic bridge display, an oral presentation, a written report and a load-bearing competition.

College of Engineering Technology dean finalists

Four finalists were recently announced for the dean position open in the College of Engineering Technology.

The campus community is invited to attend each finalist’s open forum presentation on the topic of “The Future of Technology-Related Higher Education and Ferris’ Role in That Future.”

The finalists include Dr. Derrick Dunn, who presented March 13; Dr. Zeljko “Z” Torbica, who will present March 15 from 11-11:50 a.m.; Dr. Chih-Ping “CP” Yeh, who will present March 19 from 11-11:50 a.m.; and Dr. J.K. Yates, who will present on March 21 from 11-11:50 a.m.

All presentations will take place in the Granger Auditorium (Room 102).

You Beautiful Black Woman to host Conference

YBBW (You Beautiful Black Woman) is set to host the 19th Annual Women’s Conference with a focus on health.

The theme is “Health: Physical and Mental.” The conference is set for March 15 from 5-9 p.m. in the Rankin Student Center. Keynote speaker Tony Gaskins will speak on mental health, second keynote speaker Kimberly Brown will speak on physical health and the third keynote speaker Charles Major will speak on the financial aspects of health.
