Men’s tennis streak ends at 8
Riding an eight-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) winning streak, the Bulldogs fell for the first time all season against league foe Wayne State. The Bulldogs had dominated the competition by sweeping all but three of their conference matches before Wayne State came away with a 6-3 victory. Wayne State went ahead early 2-1 after the doubles matchups before Ferris came away with two straight victories to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Warriors would take four straight to end Ferris’ five-game overall winning streak. Next on tap for Ferris is a showdown versus conference leader Northwood University. Northwood is atop the GLIAC standings with a perfect 6-0 conference record. Ferris is 8-1 in conference play. First serve will be April 9 at Northwood.
Senior Bulldogs taking the next step
Though Ferris’ hockey season ended with a crushing loss to Ohio State in the CCHA Quarterfinals, four Bulldog seniors have new destinations. Senior Matt Kirzinger is playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) on the St. John’s Ice Caps who are a Winnipeg Jets affiliate. Kirzinger has played one game for the Ice Caps recording no stats of significance. Senior Eric Alexander signed with the South Carolina Stingrays in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). In four games, Alexander has recorded one goal and three assists with 13 shots on goal. Senior Kyle Bonis is playing on the Norfolk Admirals also in the AHL. Through four games, Bonis has buried one goal and has an assist on seven shots. Senior Travis Ouellette will travel to Australia to join his brother playing hockey overseas and plans to compete professionally next season. n
