Women’s basketball adds depth

Eight new players will join the Ferris State Women’s Basketball team this season under the direction of head coach Colleen Lamoreaux-Tate.

Two of the eight are transfer students- April Watson and Heidi Highstreet. Watson played at the Division I level for Chicago State, where she made five starts last season. The 6-foot-2 sophomore was an All-Conference Honoree at the high school level.

The class also includes a Big Rapids native, Kendra Enszer. Enszer, a 6-foot-tall freshman, scored over 1,000 points in her high school career at Big Rapids High.

The Big Rapids Pioneer named Enszer its dream team player of the year, and was an All-State Honoree.

Emily Evans (Canton, Ohio), Ally Christman (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Hannah Wilkerson (Grand Haven), Ashley Villarreal (Dewitt) and Alex Shermulis (Orland Park, Ill.) will also join the 2013-14 team.

Women’s soccer ranked sixth place in preseason polls

The GLIAC Coaches meeting may have unveiled some questions about the Ferris State Women’s Soccer team.

Despite finishing with their first winning record in program history and finishing higher in the GLIAC than ever before, the Bulldogs were voted into sixth place by the 13 coaches in the preseason.

The coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Grand Valley State received 12 first place votes, while Michigan Tech received the final first place vote.

The Bulldogs had a 1-6-1 record last season against teams ranked ahead of them currently.

Ferris returns 18 players from the 2012 team.
